Projects / Start The Big Debate

We are organising a programme of public debates on key issues facing the town centre, with expert speakers and local representatives covering issues that affect us for example, modern architecture, pubs and drinking culture, the importance of good schools, attracting new shops and transport.

Parking, buses and safety: the transport debate

“Remaking Barnsley: the Transport Debate” took place at the Lucorum, Barnsley, on Thursday 26th June 2008. With around 50 people taking part, and a panel of local experts, the subject proved lively, as well as controversial.

The debate created a constructive discussion, which explored all of the travel issues facing a fast developing town like Barnsley.

Participants raised concerns about the flexibility of public transport services, looked at car parking problems in residential streets surrounding the town and the safety of pedestrians walking, especially school children. A full report will be published soon.
