Thumbnail for News ItemBarnsley Civic Trust is delighted to announce that Barnsley Building Society has become its 100th member. Samantha Cameron-Carruthers, marketing manager of Barnsley Building Society, joined up at the Trust’s first birthday party, held this month at Chill, Market Street, Barnsley.

“We have been ‘behind the scenes’ supporters of the Trust from the start, assisting with funding for some projects and displaying publicity and membership materials in our town centre branch on Cheapside,“ said Ms Cameron-Carruthers.

“Our decision to join the Trust as a corporate member at their first birthday party was our next commitment. Having found out that this actually meant we were their 100th member was a great bonus, as this demonstrates that the Trust has achieved a significant milestone within just twelve months.”

Barnsley Civic Trust members and guests heard chairman Garreth Bruff outline the progress of the organisation in its first year. He pointed out the Shop Awards, an annual accolade which recognises outstanding service from town centre businesses, and the first Big Debate, which addressed town centre pub culture and featured Eric Illsley MP on the panel, as outstanding examples of the way Barnsley Civic Trust is contributing to life in Barnsley.

“What we want to do now is to build on these achievements and move forward, involving members in a range of projects and activities which will consolidate the position of Barnsley Civic Trust,” he said. “These include the establishment of our planning group, which will be responsible for commenting on and responding to planning applications, and the launch of a photographic competition to capture the changing face of Barnsley.”
