What we do
The Barnsley Civic Trust’s projects for its first year include:
- a series of big debates about key issues facing the town centre, with expert speakers and local representatives covering issues such as architecture, pubs and drinking culture, schools and the importance of attracting good shops.
- a photography project to capture the town, its buildings and people in a fresh and positive way.
- a “Best Shops Award”, to celebrate innovative and business acumen amongst our retailers.
- a “Pride in Barnsley” campaign to get people to tell us what they love – and hate – about the town centre.
- and a planning consultation group to deliver well-informed and constructive comments and opinions on development proposals to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
