OK, so what is this all about ?

Well, recently I was doing some work on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and was wondering just how quick and easy it was to get a page of a site into Google, based on a particular phrase or combination of key words.

So, I chose to use "Colins Google index experiment" as my phrase. And here it is, on this page.

This also helps to demonstrate to people / clients, when they ask me, that Google needs actual PAGE CONTENT (that's text !!) in order to get pages and sites listed in its index. If Google cannot find the key words or phrases you are expecting people to search for, your sites pages are just not going to appear in its index !

So, a Google search for "Colins Google index experiment" should indeed find this page, if my theories and all that I believe to hold true about Google are correct.

Note also that this page DOES NOT use any ‘keywords’ META tags. The only META tags that really matter are the ‘title’ and ‘description’ tags, and these are the only ones included here. This should hopefully disprove once and for all the long held but now long incorrect view by some people that KEYWORDS META tags are important in getting web pages ranked in Google search results... They are NOT ! Google does not even consider them ! Of far more importance to Google is the actual text content included in the body of the page itself.

As the old saying goes... Time will tell...
